Is there a way to manually record from a camera

Hi,

I'm currently testing your software with 2 foscam's and one D-link camera.
It seems SecuritySpy is the only software that can properly handle the Foscam 9805.

I do have a few questions though. Is there a way that I can manually trigger recording ?
i.e. when looking at the different cameras, when I see something suspicious that is not in my predefined motiontrigger zone, is there a command or preferably a button I can click so it starts to record that stream ?

I'm also having trouble setting up the FTP function, but I need to further check before I post a question about this.

Thanks;
Pete

  • Hi Pete,

There isn't anything exactly as you describe; SecuritySpy is designed to run autonomously and record video when it detects motion (or continuously if you have set this).

You can however achieve what you want using a simple AppleScript. Open AppleScript Editor (from your /Application/Utilities/ folder), and enter the one-line command:

tell app "SecuritySpy" to set motion camera number 0

(Find the actual camera number from the "Device map" window via the Settings menu in SecuritySpy.)

Then save this script as an Application, and add it to your Dock for easy access. Whenever you see something you want to record that's outside the specified motion-detection area, click on the script to open it. As long as the camera in question is set for motion detection and in Active mode, the script will trigger recording.

    Hope this helps!
    Ben
  • Thanks, I will definatly try that.

In the meantime I have sent my Foscams back for a refund. I had too many issues with them.
I am now looking at Vivotek, I see they are in your top 10. Do you perhaps have a retailer you can recommend, preferably a webshop ?
  • We're in the UK so I'm not sure what's available where you are. use-IP are a good online shop for cameras here in the UK (and one of our resellers). Also Amazon of course.
  • Thanks for the recommodation. I bought two Hikvision bullet cams from use-IP.
Very happy with their service and the cams work nicely with SecuritySpy
