Security Spy - view only on 2nd computer requires separate license?

Hi Ben,

I fired up Security Spy on my old 2013 Mac Pro (main server is the M4 Mac Mini), deleted all cameras, entered my license, and did the "add all cameras from security spy server" function. Then I put all those cameras into view only mode.

I just set it up as an occasional use/convenience thing, to be able to see a few of my cameras when in another room on the old Mac Pro.

A while later, I got a dialog warning that the license code was in use on another computer, and SecSpy is reverting to demo mode, and all the cameras went dark.

Am I misconfiguring something? I thought this was an allowed use case for licensed users, but the warning dialog obviously indicates otherwise? I guess I'm confused about the "add all cameras from security spy server" feature in tandem with view-only and SecSpy's per-camera pricing model.

Thanks!

The issue is that you entered your license into a second machine. What you are describing is indeed allowed for free, but all you have to do is use an unlicensed second copy of SecuritySpy for the viewing machine - it will work as a viewer of your main machine in this state.

  • Ok. How do I make Security Spy be unlicensed? The behavior seems to be either trial/demo mode, or licensed...

  • Simply press the Unregister button in the License tab on the left side of the SS Settings window.

  • Yes, simply unregister. After the 30 day trial period it will still continue to function as a viewer for your main licensed SecuritySpy instance.
