Worrisome Performance in Multiplex

I've noticed that lately when using multiplex, camera previews will stutter or freeze for 5 seconds at a time or longer. It happens every minute or two. Only viewing four cameras at a time in multiplex. When viewing these same four cameras on the camera tab, there's never a pause in the video feed. Now, I know the camera tab is a lower FPS preview of the camera, but I'm having a hard time finding what is the cause of the slowness on the iPad. It's an iPad 7th Generation (Wi-Fi), full signal from the wireless access point which is only several feet away, and the camera view on the Mac mini running SS never stutters. On the Mac SS has been extraordinarily reliable. It's only on iPadOS multiplex that I have reliability issues in viewing the cameras. Individually and on the camera tab I never have stuttering, freezing, or slowness. Not sure what to do about it. Any tips?

  • More debugging would be required to determine the cause, but my initial guess would be a server resource issue. Here are some things you can try:

    • In the SecuritySpy settings on the iPad (available from the "Settings" app), you have the option between JPEG and H.264/H.265 for the live video - try both, to see which is more reliable.
    • To limit server resource usage needed to encode the video streams to sent to the iPad, you could specify a lower maximum resolution and/or frame rate for the web server account being used (e.g. try 2 MP and 8 fps - a compromise between processing vs. quality). This can be configured by editing the account details under Settings > Web.
    • If the above doesn't solve the problem, please email us and include a debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug > Create Debug File On Desktop). This will hopefully reveal some useful information about what could be going wrong. Do this while viewing the live streams in Multiplex mode on the iPad.
