Usefulness of having both overview and license plate cameras
It's not possible to capture both license plates and scenery with just a single camera. Having separate cameras turned for each purpose pays off when incidents happen.
Here is one from New Year's Eve. We would not have known what happened nor been able to get responsible party identified without our SecuritySpy system and adequate coverage.

That's a good point - most cameras are wide-angled which is great for capturing the overall scene, but usually insufficient for capturing fine detail like license plates. Good to hear you managed to identify what happened here!

Not just angle of view, but night time license plate capture requires exposure tuned dark enough for plates not to be overexposed and become unreadable white. When set for LP capture, the camera makes everything else quite dark - almost to the point of only the plate and an outline of the car is captured. Accompanying scene camera provides the other visual details. That's why I have two cameras in every direction for street coverage.
Having enoujgh SS camera license slots for pairing up cameras is essential to getting actionable traffic coverage.
