Beginners question on recording motion detection
Hi,
I have 8 Hikvision cameras. They are capable of motion detection. I am trying SecuritySpy to replace my QVR PRO on QNAP NAS - so far very impressed, and QVR really stinks.
My question is around recording. My cameras can detection motion, and so can SecuritySpy. If I want to ensure I record all activity, in other words all motion, am I relying on the camera to trigger the event or SecuritySpy? Which is better? I am using a dedicated Mac Mini i7 with 16GB RAM and the performance so far is great, and I am recording everything and happy to wrap recordings after several days.
But as a basic recommendation where should the motion detection be triggered to best ensure it is always recorded? Camera event, or SecuritySpy?
Comments
SecuritySpy can be triggered by the on-camera motion detection of Hikvision cameras, so in your case you have the option to use just the camera's motion detection, or just SecuritySpy's motion detection, or both. These options can be selected under Settings > Cameras > Triggers.
Click the + button next to the trigger box to add the camera's own motion detection as a trigger. If you don't see this option here, make sure that "Hikvision" is selected as the Profile under the Device tab.
I would suggest experimenting to see which option works best for you. The advantage of using SecuritySpy's motion detection is that you can additionally enable the AI object detector, so for example it will only detect humans. This dramatically cuts down false-positive detections. If you enable the camera-based motion detection, either alone or in addition to SecuritySpy's own motion detection, you may find that you get excessive false-positive detections.
It will be interesting to hear your experiences once you've had a chance to do some experimenting, so please report back.
