Let’s say my router has 4 LAN ports and one of the LAN ports is being used for an 8 port POE switch that has my POE cameras connected.

Is it best practice to have my Mac Mini server running SS plugged into one of the LAN ports available on my router. Or to the switch that has all the POE cameras connected?

    The best setup is:

    • Your PoE switch should be Gigabit speed and from a reputable manufacturer (Netgear, TP-Link, Ubiquiti).
    • All devices (including the Mac) should connect into your switch.

    If you connect your Mac into the router instead, you are relying on the unknown switch that is built into the router, and these are of variable quality. It may work fine, but it may cause problems.
