Remote Viewing Issues
Hi guys, I'm part way through installing a few IP cameras around my property and the first 3 I've got up are working great in security spy but when I try to view them remotely either on an app or with the web interface (on my network or from outside) the pictures display but I only get a frame every few seconds which is not ideal! Any ideas what I've got wrong? (I plugged the cameras in before putting them up and everything was fine!)
Thanks Nathan!
Thanks Nathan!

Hi Nathan,
This may be down to the viewing method you are using - this is selectable via the web interface and there are several options such as "QuickTime MPEG-4", "Server-push JPEG", "JavaScript JPEG" etc., for compatibility with all possible browser software.
On the local network, the Server-push JPEG is probably the best choice as it is supported natively in most web browsers (this one is chosen by default if you use the Auto setting). In this case though make sure you are connecting to SecuritySpy using the computer's local (LAN) IP address, not the Internet (WAN) address. Our SecuritySpy Installation Manual has more information on this.
Over the internet, the QuickTime MPEG-4 is usually the best choice as it's lower bandwidth (but unfortunately doesn't work on mobile devices because it requires the QuickTime plugin).
Also check that your cameras are actually providing images at a good frame rate to SecuritySpy - the fps (frames per second) should be displayed in the video windows in SecuritySpy.
Hope this helps!
