Multiple cameras on same LAN port

Hi

I know more cameras on the same LAN port i possible, I have 3 that all use port 88, is there a limit on how many or is it better to choose differet port for each camera, ie 86 - 87 - 88??

my cams are of course, using Securityspy and are operating on LAN only, no WAN access

TIA

John

Each camera should have a unique and static local IP address, reserved at router level ideally. They can all have the same local port. I wouldn't bother changing each cameras port number, no advantage.

  • Thanks, they are LAN only, so no need for static IP....well they do have it for administration, but no internet access. OK, Ill leave them all on port 88 :-)

  • As @JC_5674 says, they can all use the same port. It's best to leave the port settings alone unless you have a specific reason to change them.

If these are ONVIF cameras, or they support Bonjour addressing, then you don't need to give them static IP addresses on your LAN, because in either case you can use the convenient automatic addressing that either protocol provides. However, for that extra bit of reliability and performance, you could assign them to static LAN IP addresses, and then give these raw IP addresses to SecuritySpy instead (but of course, this complicates the setup).

    Thanks Ben

Thats exactly what i did, they all have static IP, and they was given to SecuritySpy....as an extra bonus, I blocked these IP's from accesing Internet (WAN), just in case...we never know with these chinese devices and potential "call home" 😜

All is good, I was only wondering if there can be to many on the same port, I daily find recording from one camera, that is "grey" ...no screenshot, some of them will show the recording anyway others wont
