Request: Pull to refresh on the iOS app
Hi
Just a quick feature request - pull to refresh the camera feeds on the iOS app
Lately (maybe since the major SS software update?) whenever I open the iOS app, the cameras either take a while to refresh their feeds or they don't refresh at all - I then have to touch the server name up top, then touch the recent server name and only then the feed refreshes
Just wondering if we can get pull to refresh from the camera feed page
Thanks

Such a feature shouldn't be necessary, because the app is designed to automatically refresh these feeds when they are broken (e.g. due to camera disconnections, or when the app is opened after being closed). This may take a few seconds, but this shouldn't feel like a long time. How long are you seeing the delay for? Is this over WiFi, or over cell/Internet, or both?
It’s over both WiFi and cellular and can either take several seconds to refresh to not refreshing at all without jumping through the hoops as outlined above
Any more input Ben? Here's a screenshot of what happens when the app hasn't been opened in a while
Without pull to refresh, one has to reload the server to refresh
Pull to refresh is a modern iOS paradigm, not sure why you don't want to implement it
We'll be working on the next iOS update soon, and will certainly take a look at this issue. The feeds should automatically refresh, so the pull-down option should not be required. We'll see what we can do to make this automatic refresh more reliable.
Thanks Ben
Yeah I’m having to refresh feeds pretty frequently so it makes sense to just use what the majority of iOS users are used to (ie pull to refresh) - it saves one step compared to the current method
just my 2 cents FWIW
Also, the captures tab at the bottom of the iOS app has pull to refresh so wondering if you can go ahead and add that to the cameras tab
Thank you
With captures, new files are being created all the time but not added to the list (because this would result in the list constantly changing). Therefore it makes sense to have a pull-down-refresh gesture for this list. In contrast, with live video, the new images should be continuously streaming in all the time anyway; pull-down-refresh should do nothing, therefore it doesn't make sense to have it on this screen. We are currently working on the iOS app, and specifically looking at making sure these streams are as reliable as possible, with automatic refreshing if they break for any reason.
Thank you Ben
Just wondering what the hesitation is to include this feature to make the app behave consistently across the board?
Is there a programming issue that makes it difficult?
Thanks again
Because if the app is working correctly then it's a completely useless feature - it does nothing. I understand that you are seeing connection problems on the Cameras page, and this should not be happening - our current development efforts include working on this specific problem!
Got it thank you
One last note - while I'm familiar with how to refresh the feeds in the app since I'm the one who set up my server, etc. the rest of my family who are also running the app are not
To them, pull to refresh is the intuitive way to refresh anything in any app that doesn't seem to be working
No matter how many times I teach them how to refresh the feeds, they inevitably forget as it's just not intuitive
So one last humble request to include this feature in an upcoming update for the non-techie users of your app
Thanks
NB I know you mentioned that you are looking at fixing the feed refresh so that pull to refresh would be 'useless' but there will be times when your normal method of refreshing won't work, for whatever reason, and it would be nice to have pull to refresh as a fallback
