Reolink Video Doorbell

Could anyone conform / deny whether the Reolink Video Doorbell works with SecuritySpy?

And if so ... would they recommend it!

Many thanks, Robbie

  • Yes it works and yes I recommend it.

  • Would that be the Reolink 5MP WiFi video doorbell?

I'm considering purchasing that, but wondering how WiFi video would be handled by SecuritySpy. Any insight would be appreciated!

  • Thank you, @paul2020. I'm going to take a shot as it's on offer on Amazon at the moment for £90.

Yes, @citysnaps it's the WiFi model I'm interested in. Half of my 8 cameras are Wifi (using 2 Mesh nodes) with SecuritySpy.

I'll feed back here my experience once I've set it up.

  • Thanx @Robbie...

Yesterday I ordered one from Amazon and should be receiving it today. And have been digging around on the net and this forum for tips, etc., including needing to enable RTSP on the camera. It appears that can be done from the macOS Reolink app. Hopefully I can run that from my headless MacMini and get everything working.

Looking forward to your experiences and comments once you get yours going.

I received my Reolink WiFi doorbell camera yesterday.

It's now installed and working fine with my 8 camera SecuritySpy system (of which 7 cameras are wired via poe). The Reolink replaces a five year old Hikvision WiFi cam. The image quality is a lot better than the Hikvision doorbell cam. And the iPhone app is very well thought out and offers a lot of configuration possibilities. I did need to download the Mac Reolink app to turn on RTSP and ONVIF on the camera - that was easy and worked fine.

The Reolink is a pretty decent doorbell cam, especially for $80. My poe wired cams produce a better image quality with a greater dynamic range, but they cost quite a bit more money. Overall I'm pleased.

One small nit... when using the web browser version of SecuritySpy, double-clicking the Reolink image opens up a blank window with an "Error 404 File not found" message. Double-clicking any of the seven wired camera windows opens a new resizable window with a camera image, as expected.

Note that double-clicking the Reolink WiFi image in the Mac version of SecuritySpy (as well as an unlicensed copy on a local networked computer) does work properly, opening a new window containing the camera's image. I'm guessing the blank window as a result of double clicking a WiFi camera image must be due to some kind of incompatibility when using the web browser and WiFi cameras.

  • My humble update. The install was a breeze and I'm very happy with the camera.

Just to be clear, it was always my intention to use my iPhone for doorbell notifications and two-way audio, and SecuritySpy for recordings.

And in this regard the Reolink doorbell and SecuritySpy function perfectly.

Thank you @citysnaps for the heads up on activating RTSP. It's buried a bit on the Reolink software, but it was a great tip.

    A question Robbie (and Ben)...

When you're looking at the WiFi doorbell camera image via SecuritySpy on your computer along with your other cameras, if you double click the doorbell image does it open up in a new resizable larger window? Or do you get a new window that's blank with an "Error 404 File not Found" message in the window?

If I do the above, I get a blank window with the Error 404 message. It works properly with my wired cameras giving me a new resizable window and image.

I'm wondering if WiFi acquired images don't permit that for some reason. Or perhaps I don't have SecuritySpy set up properly with the Reolink camera?

    Any thoughts on that Robbie/Ben?

    Thanks!

  • Hiya @citysnaps

When I double-click I get a new resizeable window, just like all my other cameras.....

Not sure what's occurring with your set up, I wish I could help, sorry.

It might be worth creating a trouble ticket with Ben and his staff?
