v6 Video Blanking Mask

Settings / Cameras / <camera> / Setup

"Draw on the video image to define the video blanking mask. Video in drawn black areas will be obscured."

Black is used to overlay the live image (tested). I would have thought (though did not test) that the same black overlays would be present on any recordings. It is not.

As this represents coverage that includes (admittedly very small areas) of private space for providing to four co-residents this presents an unexpected problem.

Am I missing something?

Thanks, Mark.

  • Hi Mark, for the blanking mask to also be present in recordings, you will need to enable the option at Settings > Cameras > Device > Recompress video data from this device. In order to apply the mask to captured footage, the video needs to first be decompressed, the mask applied, and then compressed again for recording.

Note that recompression is generally undesirable (due to increased resource usage and quality reduction), therefore if the camera itself has a privacy mask feature, then it's best to apply this in the camera itself.

  • Thank you Ben.

Not wishing to load up the Mac with unnecessary processing, particularly video reprocessing, I opted for the suggested camera mask. It was a bit crude in comparison to SecuritySpy but sufficient to purpose.
