Delay on Startup/Recording until External Storage Drives Mount

Hi there, I use a Highpoint Rocketstor 6314B RAID (As a 4 Drive JBOD) using Thunderbolt 2 to a 2018 Mac mini (with a 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter) for my external storage. Very speedy.

I would like my system to be able to auto restart and have Security Spy in Login items, but it seems to have issues if the drives aren't quite yet available. They typically show up about 10 seconds or so after the Finder kicks into gear.

What do you think of being able to set a system record delay or just having Security Spy wait for external storage destinations rather than assuming they're gone for good? I wish we could set login item delays in system prefs, but... : /

Just a suggestion.

Thanks as always for this great security system.

SecuritySpy 6 has a new settings option labeled "Volume mount timeout" which does exactly that.

Settings -> Storage -> Volume mount timeout

Prior to v6 I used a simple Shortcut to achieve the same. The Shortcut has two actions.

    • Action 1: Wait 120 seconds
    • Action 2: Open SecuritySpy

Once created, add the shortcut to your dock (File -> Add to Dock). It should now be available as an app. Remove SecuritySpy from Login Items and replace with your new shortcut. Now when your Mac restarts your shortcut will launch instead of SecuritySpy giving your external drive time to mount.

  • Thanks @chmief !

Just what I needed, very clever idea! You've opened the door on shortcuts for Mac for me now as well.

    Thanks again!

  • I experience an issue where SS will auto mount my shared storage over ethernet, (Synology) but it will mount one copy of the volume for each of the cameras. I use a little application called Delay Start that allows the system to mount just one copy of the remote volume and it holds off even letting SS boot for 20 seconds. This works very well.

  • Sounds like good solution as well, I'll check it out. Thank you!
