Version 6 Foscam

I have a Foscam camera that has worked well with Version 5, upon installing Version 6 it is no longer able to connect and I get a "video config not supplied" showing on the screen when it tries to connect. It's always been configured as Foscame H.264/H.265 profile in the settings. What am I missing? Also if I can't get this camera up I really need to revert back to SS 5.... how do I do that? I need this camera functioning with SS.

  • Sorry to hear that. We are currently investigating such issues that exist with a few cameras, and hope to have a solution soon. It sounds like some required video decoding parameters aren't supplied by the camera soon enough, which causes version 6 to reject the stream. Version 6 is less tolerant to this than version 5, because it's generally a problem that is limited to older cameras or those with questionable quality control. You can revert to version 5 using the option under Settings > Registration in the new software, or by manually downloading and installing it from this page.

  • Thanks Ben... I do like the new web interface. Strange thing I've found now with V6 is that the camera will sometimes connect up... but mostly get the error. I would try various other Foscom profiles which of course would fail and then go back to the h.264 and sometime it would make a successful connection.

I did find the revert to Version 5... nice touch... but once I reverted back to V5 and then go and try and view the web interface to see the cameas ( which all show up on SS All cameras view ) I do not have the ability on the web page to select any cameras. The Group and cameras are blank on the webpage. How do I get them back so they an be viewed on another computer via the web interface?

I really want to go to version 6..... but I need to be able to reliably see all my cameras. I understand as a developer the need to change the licensing models and I hope to be able to support the future development. This is a very nice system. I've used it for years now at multiple houses...and I hope to continue keeping up to date. I actually ended up with two 8 camera licenses and since there was no transfer to new owners I had them get their own when you had a sale on SS about a year and a half ago.... Is there anyway I can convert my two 8 camera licenses to one 16 camera license? I don't have the need for 16 right now... but may in the future... although I recognize I could upgrade both licenses and then just run two servers with each license assigned to one... but makes things messy overall.

Thanks... and hoping you can tell me how to get my V5 cameras back in web page while you work on the issue I'm having with connecting to the one camera... I really want to upgrade.

Got the same problem with my Foscam cams. If I reboot the cams, they will show up and work, but if I reboot the Mac with SecuritySpy 6 on with the cams online, I get the error "Some required video configuration data was not supplied ny the device"

In other words, with SecuritySpy up and running, i need to pull the power to my cams, and let them come online last, then it works

  • What is supposed to happen is that some config data (required to decode the stream) should be supplied either in the RTSP negotiation, or at the head of the stream. If this doesn't happen, SecuritySpy can't decode the stream, so throws this error. Some cameras (especially if they haven't just been rebooted) seem to delay sending this config data until later in the stream. The new beta version of SecuritySpy is more tolerant to late delivery of config data, so please test it and let me know if it resolves the problem with the above cameras.

  • Ben, I installed the new beta and it instantly came up with all the cameras showing connected and working. I then shut SS back down and moved the beta version into the Applications folder. At this point I rebooted the mac to do a clean startup. It came up with the cameras but quickly some error showed up for the Foscam... the error log said there was a problem and it disconnected the camera...and then reconnected and I haven't seen the error again. Looked like some handshake on some settings might have failed.. I don't remember the exact wording that came up on the camera screen in SS.

I have seen the camera screen flash green once as well. but it was only for a second and then the camera video was back.

    It's a great improvement.

I saw a mention that the dynamic DNS naming was only going to work until March 2025. Is that just for V5 or does that also apply to V6?

I have two cameras that do not support PTZ, and have the advanced setting checked to turn off PTZ for those cameras. It would be nice if the web interface didn't show the PTZ controls on the lower left...

Also it would be nice if there was a way to invoke the URL to view the cameras that it had the slide out window on the left as hidden. I'm sure you probably get a lot of wanting URL expansion to show the cameras without the controls. Just a thought... I'm sure there are bigger fish to fry right now.

Thanks for the quick beta turnaround to get these crap cameras working with ss.
