Remote access setup

Hi,

I have had securitySpy for a while now, but it's only now I'm getting around to setting up remote access so I can view. I followed the "Setting up remote access" in the user manual. I have both of these ticked.

Automatic port forwarding: Allow access from the Internet for HTTP

(NAT-PMP and UPP) v Allow access from the Internet for HTTPS

I have a standard SKY router which does have a PnP page which is enabled. My question is how do you know if the router has been configured by SecuritySpy sucessfully . I went back into the router and went through some pages around port forwarding, services, PnP but don't see any changes. Does SecuritySpy not need the admin password for the router to make changes ?

Thanks James

  • Hi James,

If the router supports UPnP, SecuritySpy (and other applications) are allowed to create port forwarding rules automatically in the router without any kind of password requirement. The best way to test whether this has worked (assuming you have an iPhone, or an iPad with a SIM card), is to take your iPhone and turn off its WiFi, so that it's connected by cell data, open Safari, and enter the URL https://name.viewcam.me:8001, where "name" is the DDNS name that you have set up in SecuritySpy under Preferences > Web.

A login screen asking for the username/password of a web account that you have set in SecuritySpy indicates success.

If this doesn't work, please email us and include a debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug > Create Debug File On Desktop) and we will help you directly to get this working. Each case is a bit different, so direct help is always the best, rather than trying to debug this via the forum.

  • Thanks, I'll try that. Will be a few days as I'm travelling this week.
