Feature request: Include motion detection thumbnail in SecuritySpy Browser window

The IOS app shows a thumbnail that is cropped to the portion of the larger image. I’d find it very useful to also have this as an option in the “File” list of the “Browser” window.

Might it be possible to add thumbnails to Browser?

Related to this is that loading files in the Browser can take a minute or two per camera on days with lots of events. And yet, the iOS app loads the thumbnails for the same camera very quickly. It seems like the thumbnail view would be slower and the file view would be faster, but it is the other way around. Can Browser's listing speed match that of the app?

Thanks for helping think it through.

  • Going through the recordings would be so much faster with thumbnails.

  • Thanks for your suggestion. The issue is that there are already a lot of UI elements in the Browser and therefore not much space for thumbnails. But, I do see the usefulness of this and we'll see what we can do in a future update. I think this would be a nice feature enhancement if we can make it work in the available space.

In terms of listing speed - it's not the scanning of files or generating the thumbnails that takes the time, it's the construction of the day-long video composition that the Browser uses for its playback. By contrast, in the iOS app, this is simply a list of files, which is quick to generate. The best way to minimise scanning time in the Browser is to minimise the number of files captured (with good motion detection settings), and using a fast capture drive (e.g. an SSD). And of course, a fast Mac that isn't heavily loaded with other tasks.

  • Can you in theory just install the iOS app on Mac OS? Even tho it aint exactly the same.
