Request for false-positive motion movie files

Hello all!

In our never-ending quest to keep SecuritySpy's motion detection algorithms as accurate as possible, we are looking to improve our algorithms to reduce false-positive detections, for example here are some main culprits:

  • Snow / rain
  • Windy conditions (swaying branches)
  • Shadows
  • Spider webs / bugs

To this end, we would like to gather a diverse set of motion-capture movie files from users so that we can use these to run some optimisations to improve our algorithm.

We would very much appreciate the help of any user. If you would like to help, please set the following settings for your camera(s):

  • Under Preferences > Cameras > Motion Capture, set the pre-capture time to 10s, set the post-capture time to at least 10s, and set the capture type to "One movie per event".
  • Under Preferences > Cameras > Triggers, set the sensitivity to 50 and the trigger time to 1.5s, and turn the human/vehicle AI sliders for motion capture to the OFF position.
  • Over the course of a few days, collect some examples of true-positive detections (i.e. movie files of real events) as well as false-positive detections (i.e. movie files that should not have been recorded), and then send them to us. The easiest way to send them is to use wetransfer.com to send a whole folder of movie files to support@bensoftware.com.
  • We will keep your files secure and completely confidential, they will never be shared with third parties.

You can also send us any files in your recording history that are good examples or true/false triggers - but we do need the pre-capture time to be at least 10s for these to be useful for our purposes here.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Hi guys just sent you two of each, correct motion detection and just snow. Camera is set to your requested parameters. Hope you can filter out the snow somehow ! Jeff Security Spy is 5.5.2

  • Thanks @jeffkluth this is very helpful, we will use these to improve our algorithm

One comment on a couple of your movies: the camera is adjusting its auto-focus due to the snow, which is resulting in large changes in the image. Perhaps it would be better to set it to fixed focus rather than auto focus, in order to prevent this. I think this will help to cut down the number of false positives.

  • Hello Ben,

With the arrival of spring all my cameras experience all the conditions outlined above to the nth degree. Some months ago I began saving and cataloging(?) still images captured using sSpy's "AI Predictions" folder. Would a collection of AI Prediction images be of any benefit in your quest?

  • Hi @nowz many thanks for your offer, but we can't use these images specifically. If you have any movie files you can send us, this would be useful. Alternatively, if you can allow your cameras' images to be automatically and anonymously shared with us, using the option in the General Preferences, this would be very helpful.
