Bad username or password trying to add Amcrest IP4M-1041B

I am trying to add an Amcrest IP4M-1041B camera to my SecuritySpy system.

SecuritySpy automatically found the device, but instead of showing video, I get "Bad username or password". I have logged in to the camera through a web browser, and the username and password works there.

Advice to help unblock me?

SecuritySpy Settings...
ONVIF Port: (Blank)
RTSP Port: (Blank)
Username: SecuritySpy
Password: ********
Profile: ONVIF
Format RTSP

  • The first thing is to double-check that the username and password you have entered into SecuritySpy is in fact correct. You have indicated that you are using "SecuritySpy" as the username - this is quite unusual, the default is usually "admin", are you sure this is correct?

Also, I would recommend using the Amcrest profile rather than the ONVIF profile here. If you still get this message, try a reboot of the camera - if there are too many failed logins from a particular client, the camera will block the client for a period of time, even if the correct credentials are then subsequently supplied. A reboot should reset this and allow a connection again.
  • I confirmed the username and password are correct. I tried both the "admin" user and a user I tried making just for SecuritySpy (both of with which I can log in to the camera directly).

Changing the profile to Amcrest did it! Thank you for that tip, that's what I needed! Thank you.
  • Great to hear this resolved the problem. Many cameras have separate ONVIF accounts that have to be set up specifically for ONVIF access, so perhaps that could be the case here. Using the Amcrest profile bypasses the need for ONVIF.
