Speakers For network Cameras on SS.

Morning everyone.

I am just enquiring if anyone has ever added a speaker, or if there is a IP camera out there that can be used to do duplex audio. The reason I ask is the Hikvision Door Bell camera we have purchased is a complete POS. I have had nothing but trouble from day one. I know you can get cameras with audio to record sound, but I was interested to see if I could use a speaker for the line out function and the SS app to act as a "Door bell" of sorts.

Or am I just barking up the wrong tree?

  • I would also be interested in this, but mostly as a couple of loudspeakers to mount on the exterior of my warehouse I could use to yell at the taggers or dealers, or play pre-recorded messages or music on an alarm indication -
  • There are only a few cameras that have built-in speakers. Instead, many cameras have audio line out connectors, and for the brands we support (Axis, Dahua, Amcrest, Hikvision), this can be used to provide two-way audio. The line out connector must be connected to a powered speaker (i.e. a speaker with a built-in amplifier). Powering the speaker can be a bit tricky as this may require a separate power cable, though some cameras provide a 12v output that could potentially be used for this purpose.
  • Hi Ben,
I have been looking at the Vivotek FD9387-HV which has Duplex Audio and external line out ability. I was looking to take the external line out to a Uniden BC23A powered amp speaker (12v) I have 12v at the front gate from the Hikvision door Bell, so I was thinking to run this up to the powered speaker. This should work in theory........
  • The electrical setup all sounds fine, however SecuritySpy currently does not support two-way audio for Vivotek cameras. Instead, perhaps you could consider a Dahua model - there are plenty of Dahua fixed dome cameras with similar specs to this Vivotek.
