US NDAA compliant low cost cameras, such as Uniview (UNV) models

I've come across information about the US NDAA of 2019 and how it affects various camera manufacturers / brands (Hikvision, Dahua, anything they are the OEM for, and anything with Hisilicon SoCs from Huawei).

One of the less expensive brands that appears to have some NDAA-compliant models is Uniview, or UNV. (I've also seen at least one teardown that show UNV having Hisilicon SoCs, so )

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the UNV brand — or other lower-cost NDAA-compliant cameras. I haven't found anything in this forum or in the compatibility list.

Some brands that tend to have NDAA-compliant cameras include Axis and Hanwha Techwin. If I understand correctly, quite a few of the brands on the compatibility list use Hikvision or Dahua as the OEM, and/or use Hisilicon SoCs that would be prohibited based on the NDAA restrictions.

Thanks!

  • Yes, quite a large number of brands are actually OEM Dahua or Hikvision. I haven't actually heard of Uniview before, which is surprising because they have quite a large range of cameras. They probably aren't big in the US or Europe yet. The cameras look good and they all seem to be ONVIF compliant, so they should all work with SecuritySpy, although I don't have any direct experience of them. If you decide to go for a Uniview camera please report back with your experiences.
