Local access to SS server no longer works, get message "This address is restricted
  • I installed a new upgrade to Waterfox (2021.04.1 ) and access to the Security Spy web server that worked before using, for example, https://192.168.1.40:8001 (one of the options under "How Do I Access This Server" under the Web preference tab in SS preferences) no longer works. This worked under Waterfox 2021.04

    I get the message:
    "This address is restricted
This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Waterfox has canceled the request for your protection."

Is there a solution to get local network access to Security Spy working again? Thanks for any help. It is very convenient to open a web page locally to take a look at cameras.

    Thanks for any help.
  • Sounds like this is specific to Waterfox. A few possible solutions:

    1. Tell Waterfox to allow this port.

    2. Use HTTP on port 8000 rather than HTTPS on port 8001 for local access to your SecuritySpy server (you don't need to use encryption when communicating across your local network. Make sure the HTTP server is enabled under Preferences > Web, and use the URL http://192.168.1.40:8000

    3. Chance SecuritySpy's HTTPS port to something allowable by Waterfox, under Preferences > Web.

    Hope this helps,
    Ben
  • Thanks for the suggestions. Waterfox update 2021.04.2 today 26 Apr 2021 has fixed the problem.
  • OK, great to hear that.
