Low Frame Rate with a Logitech c920 USB WebCam

edited October 2020 in SecuritySpy
I've been observing that the frame rate SS is reporting for a Logitech c920 webcam connected via USB to a 2018 Mac Mini is 2 fps. Given this camera supports 1080p at 30 fps I'm confused as to the low fps with SS. Note that when I use Photo Booth to view the live video feed from that camera the fps is much higher. Thoughts?

  • After writing that I changed the USB connection with the webcam to use a different USB Hub (USB-C instead of USB-3) and now I'm seeing 25fps on SS. This has me wondering if there is some issue with the other Anker USB hub (this connects to the USB-3 port on my Mini) as the newer hub that appears to work better connects to a USB-C port on the Mini. I also have another USB webcam connected to the USB-3 hub.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?
  • Good to hear you found the solution. Certainly, USB-3 should provide enough speed for a good frame rate here, so there must be some particular interaction with your previous USB hub and the Mac/camera.
