NTP server on OS X for LAN cameras

Comments

  • Hello,

    I installed sntp on SS Nr. 6 and am receiving this even after waiting 20 minutes or more. Used Ben's procedure as in the link above. Any advice? Thanks.

    % sntp localhost

    +0.000027 +/- 0.012583 localhost ::1

    I am expecting to get a valid date and time.

  • There seems to be some variation in the "sntp" tool on different macOS system versions, with the output being shown with different levels of detail, but the output you are getting indicates that your NTP server is in fact working. The numbers returned show an insignificantly tiny difference between the Mac's local time and the time provided by the NTP server, showing that the Mac's clock is in sync.

    If you now provide the IP address of the Mac to your cameras as the NTP server, they will be able to keep time. Make sure the Mac has been assigned a static IP address on your local network so that its address does not change.

  • Yes, You're right Ben. It works and I've confirmed that it works for cameras set to get ntp from my SS Mac. The format looked so strange I thought I had perhaps installed something incorrectly. Thanks and thanks for your promptness in responding.

  • Great to hear that. It's understandable - the format of that output does look strange!
