New Software, UUID ? and 2009 Mac Mini with 4 cameras ?
Have been running one camera on my 2009 Mac Mini for over a year and its great.
Upgraded to the new software and now have the app on my iphone and after a lot of faffing with port forwarding got that working too.
Because of the age of my Mac Mini and probably the IOS version have to run 32bit version. If I upgrade the IOS version will it run 64bit version and is it worth it ?
Plan to add another couple of cameras (max 4) so again not sure if the Mini Mac will be ok. It has loads of Ram 8GB and a SSD so runs quite fast. Camera is set at a low frame rate and says its only using about 24% of the macs processing. I will need to upgrade the license obviously to add more cameras.
One strange thing is I now have to use "auto discover devices" rather than putting in the IP number which wont work and it sticks in some UUID number whatever that is ?
Anyway once I got the latest version running, installed the app on my iphone and then read the manual to learn about port forwarding when it would not work at first lol (embarassed look) I have to say I like it a lot. Love that I can watch live when away from the house, move my camera remotely and even view captured footage, Well done Ben!

Hmm just checked the system requirements. My current camera is 2MP but I have just purchased a 4MP second one

I guess I could run it at 2MP to ensure the Mac Mini will cope.

Hi Jerry,
Sorry about the problem with ONVIF devices and IP addresses, it's fixed in the new version of SecuritySpy (4.0.9) so if you install this version you can go back to using IP addresses if you want to.
However the UUID method works perfectly well. The point of using the UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) is so that you don't have to set up your cameras with fixed IP addresses on your local network, so it simplifies the setup.
Also in 4.0.9 is a new features that automatically sets up port forwarding on most routers - sorry this came just too late for you!
As for the System Requirements Calculator, this gives you a general idea of which Mac to use for a particular setup, but you shouldn't take the results as hard rules that you must follow absolutely. If your Mac is currently running at only 24% then you've got plenty of processing power left, and it should be able to handle an additional 4 MP camera with ease (though you should probably use a modest frame rate for it, perhaps in the range 5-10).
There's no reason why you can't run the 64-bit version of SecuritySpy, in fact I would strongly recommend you do so, as it provides advantages in terms of speed and the amount of memory it can access.
Hope this helps! -
Thanks Ben.
I have upgraded to the latest version now, purchased a 4 camera license and have two cameras running successfully on my Mac Mini 2009 with 50-60% of resources left. Have reduced FPS from 10 down to 6.
Was lucky I purchased the first license back in Jan so the upgrade was a little cheaper.
I think I still have capacity to run a third camera.
Cant run 64bit as I am running Lion. Mountain Lion is the min spec for the 64bit version. Probably wont bother as its a faff to get hold of a later version and my 2009 Mac Mini is a year too old to run Sierra.
Very pleased

Hi Jerry,
Glad you are pleased! If you can get your hands on a newer system version at some point I'd recommend upgrading, as the 64-bit version of SecuritySpy should provide a performance boost. However if it's running well at the moment then this isn't too important.
