Motion detection log?
Is there any way to see a log of instances of motion detection being triggered by camera? Rather than wanting an email with pictures etc., I'd just like to be able to see suspected events and use it as an index into continuous video playback. It'd be much easier to refine masks and sensitivity settings (faced with spider webs, wind blowing trees etc.).

There is no log file for this as such, however I suggest you set SecuritySpy to record video upon motion detection (with a separate file per event), and then you will have a list of files that you can reference as a history of motion-detection events.

Ben, thanks. Whilst SecuritySpy is vastly better than the software you get with the HikVision cameras, this is one aspect of how they tackle the problem that I think might be worth considering in future. In iVMS-4200, whether you're reviewing motion triggered video or continuous recording, you see a timeline that's populated with little lines to show motion detection events, and you can jump to each one in the video. It's a lot simpler than ending up with motion triggered video on top of continuous video, and of course the disk usage is a factor as well. Don't know if anyone else would agree, obviously.

Really? I don't see any event markers but am only using continuous record. If I enable motion record, does that create a duplicate m4v file for the period during which motion is detected, or does it somehow just increase the frame rate for that part of the video and show a marker? If it's the latter I owe you an apology; probably the best possible solution!

If you are recording continually, you will see one long object in the timeline, indicating that video is available throughout the day.
What you should do is enable motion capture (you can do this side by side with continuous capture). It records its own files. Then, in the Browser, click the menu next to the calendar icon in the top left of the window (by default this say "Show All Files") and select "Motion Capture Movies Only". Then you will see these separately in the timeline. -
Ah OK; that's kind of what I understood. Personally, I think it would be great to show motion detection events in that timeline (and jump to them for playback) regardless of whether a recording was triggered as a result. If I set motion-triggered recording I will get duplicate video files for the entire night (due to spider webs and weather). But I get that this is primarily based on the availability of video files with particular name patterns so it would be quite a significant change.
