PoE Switch Combo

Presently a use a Netgear Pro Switch and a separate PoE, which works.
I was attempting to reduce the wiring by purchasing a PoE Switch combination.

What I discovered when I swapped from the present arrangement to the new PoE/Switch was that some cameras would not work.
The new PoE/Switch Power LED lights up, some cameras will activate the port light indicating that the camera is being powered but others won't, no matter which port or cables I choose, it's as if the camera is deciding not to operate.
There is power going through the device, my RJ45 tester shows a connection, but nothing when the cameras are connected.
Placing the same wires and camera to the Netgear and separate PoE, they return to being functional. The cameras that work require higher wattage, it seems, but the unit claims to have the lower watt requirements covered.

Is there any documentation on this anomaly?

  • Hi Juan,

    It's possible that your cameras require more power than is delivered by the switch. Standard PoE provides up to 15.4 W of power whereas PoE+ provides up to 25.5 W. Check the specs of your cameras to see if they are PoE or PoE+. Larger cameras with Pan/Tilt/Zoom features will often be PoE+.

    If the cameras are standard PoE, then there may be a problem with the switch. Contact the switch manufacturer for advice, or return it for a replacement or a different model.

    It's probably broken, it was a direct purchase from China...one that took a month to receive, that I wished from jump-street that I could have stopped. I paid $50 for it, the Netgear equivalent was $150

    Maximum power of single PoE port : 15.4W/30W;
