V4.07 Email Image Compression and Save Preferences Button

I've upgraded to the latest SecuritySpy v4.07 and used the new feature for changing the size of an emailed image to "quarter size". I'm receiving blank images in my email (actually just a totally green image). My camera is a Dahua set to stream at 10 frames/sec at H.264 format. I'm using the substream 2 for this camera at low bitrate of 1024. If the email size setting is set to actual size, it sends a good image.

In the SecuritySpy Software preferences, I'm not having it do any compression or recode. I do have the compression settings set to 30%, but I'm assuming that with no recode or compression from the SS software, it ignores these compressions settings. (Is this assumption correct?)

Anyone else noticing a problem with the resize of email images?

Another thing I've noticed with both this version and previous versions: If I change a mask or other camera setting, the schedule for capturing motion sometimes reverts to manual control without any intervention on my part. This issue seems to occur at somewhat random times, but I've noticed that a predictive sign that this bug will show itself is the following: If I click on the "save preferences" button in the preferences window, it dims, then becomes immediately active again. When the "save preferences" button is clicked and then remains dimmed, the reversion to manual control doesn't seem to occur. Sometimes this change to manual control only manifests itself if you then quit the software and restart it. It's been perplexing. When making any change in settings, I constantly go down the list of my 4 cameras to check their schedule hasn't reverted to manual control for motion detection changes, since I don't want to come back to the computer later in the day and discover that the camera became inactive due to 'manual control'. I don't understand this problem. I'm not any sort of serious programmer, but it's almost as though some intermediate variable in one screen of the preferences window is being reused to store another setting in error.

With exception of these issues, I am enjoying using the software.

  • Hi,

The problem with the bad email images should be fixed in the latest beta version of SecuritySpy - please confirm.

As for the schedule problem, I can't seem to reproduce this, nor see from the source code how it could be happening. Are you, at any point, manually changing the camera's mode, either by the menu options, contextual menus, or web server? Could you give me precise and repeatable steps to reproduce?
  • Thanks, Ben, for your quick response. Glad to hear that the bad email image is being fixed.

I wish I could identify the exact sequence that causes these preference setting issues. It seems somewhat random, but the best I can identify is changing a mask or motion detection sensitivity seems to sometimes do it. For the longest time, I thought I was imagining this issue, but it has happened so many times, since starting with the software in July, that it can't be my imagination.

One thing more common, which I mentioned in my post which seems to precede this --the "Apply Preferences" button dims when clicked upon and then two seconds later becomes active again. Again, I haven't been able to exactly identify when this occurs, but I've seen this many times.

I'm wondering if others have noticed this "Apply Preferences" button behavior?

I'm running my iMac (El Capitan) as a non-administrator user. Perhaps it's a permissions thing? Something about the preferences settings isn't sticking and/or resets motion video capture to "manual control".

To be clear, it doesn't happen by itself during operation; if I quit the application and then relaunch, and it's working properly, it stays working properly. The issue only appears when I have changed some other preference setting and then saved the changes without having quit and relaunched the application.
