Feature Request recording to NAS

Hey Ben,

I use a NAS setup to to insure I don't loose any data. 98% percent of the time it works great, but sometimes the network has hiccups, and security spy will then default back to the main drive of the computer. (OK, sure)

The Request, is for the system to notify me by email that the main recording drive has changed, that way I know this has happened.

Also it would be nice if security spy could automatically try to reconnect to the main drive periodically... Not everyone uses a NAS to record to, but I know there are a lot that do, and have experienced the same issues.

So far I haven't found a great solution for the mac to keep trying to keep the NAS drive mounted, if you know of any tools that work great then no need for security spy to do it. :-D

Thanks,
Jonathan Larsen

  • You've probably experimented with other solutions – when I experienced the same thing I just started to record locally then run a few Carbon Copy Cloner jobs at night run to move the continuous and motion files over to the NAS. I also use Hazel to clean up older files (both on the local drive and the NAS).
  • I use Mountain to keep NAS volumes mounted.

  • When a NAS disconnects, there will be an error generated, and you will therefore receive an email informing you of this if you have opted to receive error messages by email in the Setup section of the Preferences.

SecuritySpy will subsequently start recording back to the NAS, but this requires the camera's relevant mode (motion or continuous) to be disarmed and then armed again, so it may take some time to happen. I'll look at how we can get SecuritySpy to switch back to the NAS more quickly in this scenario.
