Seven days left for trial of SS4, Too many problems remain.
Ben-
My trial period is coming to an end. But for me anyway, on my computer, this application is not ready for sale.
No contextual menu, so I can't arm and disarm cameras.
The "8969" error remains… Once it's triggered… I get no more emails from that camera.
The browser, it shows files but when you click on them they don't appear in the viewing window.
The ballooning of file sizes, both email and time lapse.
I was really looking forward to this upgrade… But at present, it just doesn't do the job.

Overall I'm finding 4.0.3 to be a good release (just upgraded from 3.4.8 yesterday)
the only big thing I'm seeing is the email size attached pictures have gone from around 150 KB to 420 KB - would be nice to get more options in email - like compression/size of email attachments, and the ability to alter the text content in the main body of the email (for better viewing on mobile phone, for me the subject of the email can be adjusted to show what I need it to list, to have it in the main body again is just wasting viewing space) Especially the compression though - when in areas with lower speed/unreliable cell service having the pictures at 150 KB or less makes them not only faster to load, but more likely to load at least one of them.
All contextual menu's work.
Emails sending reliably, although it has just been a day, so that may take time to run into a problem.
Browser seems to work reliably for pictures, but not for videos - sometimes it doesn't show the video when I tried it - I usually just use the finder myself, so this doesn't impact me, but I can confirm that there seems to be a bug there.
Video files are much reduced in size for me, about 1/3 - likely because I was using options causing re-encoding of files with the previous version, while the new version just has straight copies from the cameras. Picture files saved to disk are the same size as the 3.4.8 version. -
Yea was tempted to upgrade as well but to many bugs for me. Looks like I missed the 50% discount anyway, even tho it says it's still available. With all the bugs still, Ben really should extend it. Oh well.

Hi All,
Though there are always bugs in early releases of major new software releases, we have been working hard to fix them, and there are currently no known bugs in the latest release version (currently 4.0.4).
If the recording file size is different (larger or smaller), it's probably due to different capture settings, which may have changed automatically when upgrading (for example, MPEG-4 encoding is no longer available under 64-bit, so SecuritySpy switches to H.264 instead in version 4, which leads to smaller file sizes but higher CPU usage in some circumstances).
If the size of continuous-capture movies is unusually large, this could be down to the frame rate of the capture. If the incoming video is MPEG-4 or H.264, then SecuritySpy cannot change the frame rate of this stream when it records it directly to the movie files. So the solution is to lower the frame rate on the cameras, or to turn on the "Recompress video data" option in the Preferences -> Cameras -> Setup section (but this will result in increased CPU usage, as your Mac has to do more work).
In 4.0.4 there is a separate quality setting (in the Preferences -> Compression section) for JPEG compression for still images, so you can use this to reduce the size of the emails independently from the video capture.
@jay and @sproctor61 - if you still want to upgrade with the 50% discount this week I'll extend this offer to you - simply email us referencing this forum thread. -
I don't know where these errors are coming from. I am an upgrader from version 3 and I am not seeing any of this. I record all of my cameras to an external 3TB drive, and like version 3, I am getting 2 + weeks of data with that drive. I run 4 outdoor HD cameras on continuous capture and 4 indoor cameras on motion capture. Definitely not seeing any difference worth mentioning in file sizes. 4.04 is solid and stable.
