an observation of the lastest SS upgrade

Just an observation of the new Security Spy download.
You get accustom to using the software a certain way.

I kept the old version and can run them side by side….or not.

I use an old 2009 Mini with 4 Dahua cameras. One cameras the Dahua IPC-HFW2300R-Z is a zoom, http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=2550 but I've not found a way to get Security Spy's PTZ option to work in either SS iteration.

The new versions adds a new process file VTDeoder…
The new versions increases demand X2 on the System according to "Activity Monitor" All compression is done in the cameras.

The video quality in both appears to be the same.

Browser window is larger/wider on the left…Index side, with no means of adjustment.

The files in the Browser index are descending from earliest to latest, so the Top file is hours old, not the latest activity…with no visible means of swapping to ascending. When browser is opened it defaults to the Oldest top file.

The calendar could be useful but I would have liked to have the option of not segmenting the files in the Browser.

I have lost an important Key Command in the browser where I could select a file and hit Return and the file would play, this option is no longer available unless I've missed something.

Lastly from my wish list I had mentioned the desire to be able to Mark the browser files with a Label but that didn't come to fruition.

I would also like the browser to be sortable to the most recent event on top.

I do however like the fact that the files are segmented. I use continuous recording for all my cameras, and they are segmented by hour. On top of that I use motion detection that creates motion movies and stills, so I can easily see when something occurred. If the files would not be segmented, I'd end up with large files that would be nearly impossible to review.

Coming to my next point. I have a really hard time skimming footage now. In version 3.x there was a standard quicktime playbar on the bottom of the video. I could easily skip 40 mins of video in my continious recording files, but now it's impossible.
A nice option would be that the playhead could be freely placed and scrubbed inside the time window, just like in iMovie or FCPX, that would make browsing or skimming video really fast and usable...

@petecam - you can scrub in the time window: click at the top of the timeline (where the numbers are) and drag left/right to scrub backwards/forwards.

We've had several requests for choosing the file listing order (old-to-new or new-to-old) so this is something we'll do in a near-future update.

Timeline- i see no numbers and not able to scrub... needless to say this is HUGE.

I just looked at the documentation. My Browser definatly doesn't look like the screenshot you have in the documentation.

I know this is a bit of an old thread now, but for anyone else reading, this problem with the timeline numbers is fixed in the latest version of SecuritySpy.
