Trying to get Reolink RLC-410 to work with Security Spy 3.2.1 on PPC Mac

I'm trying to get a new Reolink RLC-410 to work with my current "security" Mac, which is an old PPC Mac that can't be upgraded beyond Security Spy 3.2.1. I have the camera set up properly according to the Reolink website (https://reolink.com/faq/set-up-reolink-camera-in-security-spy/ ) but I can't get SS to connect. To test if it's the older software, I installed SS 3.4.10 on another computer and the device setup works, so I now know it's the old version. The issue seems to be in the "Format" dropdown. The new version says RTSP TCP (video and audio) and the old version calls this RTSP (video and audio).

I know the old software is no longer supported, but is there any way to get this ONVIF camera to work? I feel like I found a decent, well-priced outdoor camera, but in order to use them I may have to switch my whole recording system :(

Thanks,
Dave

  • Hi Dave,

If you can let me know the exact error code, I can have a look for you to see if I can work out what is going wrong. However, we won't be able to update this old version of SecuritySpy unfortunately, so if it's a case of the camera being incompatible with this old version (which I'm afraid is quite likely, based on your description), then there will be nothing we can do to fix it.

Under the old version, the "RTSP" format is the same as the "RTSP TCP" format of the new version (the change is because we added a "RTSP UDP" option, as some cameras prefer this). So the problem must lie elsewhere.
  • Ben,

It's an authentication error. The camera does not have a password set yet since it's new and I was still testing it. So the error log looks like this: 05-23-2016 1411-36: Error communication with the network device "Reolink" 3.2.1,80201,401 Authentication error - check the username and password. There is also a less frequent error of 3.2.1,8440,8871

I'd like to also point out that if I'm in the Video Device setup pane and I click "Get profile list..." I do get a list... Profile000_MainStream and Profile001_Substream. Mainstream is currently H264 1280x720 but I have also had it at 1080. Substream is 640x360. Neither one seems to work.

  • Hi Dave,

I presume you're using the ONVIF profile at the moment?

Instead, please try the Manual profile, select RTSP as the Format, and enter the following as the Request:

    h264Preview_01_main

Another thing that might help is to make sure you have the latest version of the Reolink firmware running on your camera.
  • Ben,

Yes, I was using ONVIF but tried it manually... unfortunately that request doesn't work, I get the same 80201,401 authentication error. I also tested the manual request with that camera on the newest version of SS and it gave me a blank/grey screen with the error 10,835

It turns out that the firmware did have an upgrade available, but unfortunately that didn't help either.

And since I bought two of these, I unboxed the second to double-check that it wasn't specific to that camera and the other has the same issue with the older SS.
