Quicktime on PC is end of life - Support other plugins?
Quicktime on the PC is end-of-life. Apple recommends everyone to uninstall quicktime from the PC due to zero-day vulnerabilities in quicktime on the PC that they do not plan to fix. Is there any chance the SecuritySpy web page could support other plugins to play the mpeg4 video? Maybe the VLC plugins?

Browsers are increasingly blocking all plugins, so it doesn't make too much sense to switch to a different one such a VLC. What we suggest is that you use H.264 video compression, and if using audio, use AAC (hopefully your camera itself can supply data in these formats - most can - so that SecuritySpy doesn't have to do this encoding itself). In this case SecuritySpy will create MP4 files, which play back directly via HTML5 and don't require plugins.

OK, maybe I am missing something then. My cameras are video only, no audio, and they do encode to h.264. When I view the camera select page on a PC, it only gives me options for Quicktime, MJPEG and still image. This is with IE 11 on Windows 10.
Does HTML 5 require a different browser to use H.264 without Quicktime? Am I missing an H.264 decoder for, say, windows media player? -
Ah I thought you were referring to previously-captured files, I see now that you are referring to live video. At the moment you can view live JPEG video without a plugin, or live MPEG-4 video+audio with the QuickTime plugin. We are currently working on replacing the QuickTime MPEG-4 method with HTTP Live Streaming, which works in HTML5 without plugins.

I also found that I could save an .mov of the live stream on a Mac and play it in PC Quicktime Player without the Quicktime browser plugin installed. I don't mind having Quicktime installed on my PC's with the zero-day vulnerabilities, I just don't want Quicktime exposed through the browser plugin.
