Port forward V VPN Access
Hi
Just been adding a new camera and looking on IP Cam forums etc.
A quick google seems to suggest a volume of people that indicate VPN is a more secure method than port forwarding.
However i'd guess most people are using port forwarding.
I access my camera network remotely , usual method is the Remote patrol app, but as a back up i use Live Cam Pro app and the built in web server.
So a simple question, what are people's methods to secure a small home network?
Is the VPN route over the top or a requirement in the internet connected home?

Hi Phil, a secure web interface is just as safe as a secure VPN, and SecuritySpy does provide this via its HTTPS web interface. One issue is that to view recordings on iOS you'll need an official SSL certificate rather than a self-signed one, but if you're interested in security you'll probably want to do this anyway. Everything else (live video, control of SecuritySpy etc.) works with a self-signed one, it's just viewing previously-captured movies that is affected.
