web server stopped working

First off, I don't think anything has changed... it has always worked. But it just stopped working.

I have set up the web server for remotely accessing my cameras via browser and remote patrol app. I am using the viewcam.me dyn dns name.

The local address is correct. "HTTP server enabled on port ___" is correct. I'm using the proper syntax in trying to hit the web server, _____.viewcam.me:00000 (port number).

Hitting 'test" on dyn dos name in the web server settings has a green light.

However... even though there is a bonjour/server name "sspy" I don't see any server via bonjour. This leads me to believe it's not a router issue, it's an issue with the server itself. "Advertise this web server via Bonjour" is checked.

Any ideas here? All was working so well for so long..

OSX El Capitan latest 10.11.4, mac mini 2.5 ghz i5.

The only thing that MIGHT have changed is a OS X update. I was having a problem with the network control panel not being able to open, so I reinstalled the combo updater and that fixed that issue.

Anything else I can try? Thanks!!

  • Oh and I just updated to latest Securityspy and no difference.
  • Since I can't edit.. :(

Looks like it DOES appear in Bonjour, so it could be a router configuration issue... going down that road, haven't figured it out yet. Nothing has changed so not sure why it USED to work...
  • It sounds like you have everything set up correctly in SecuritySpy, so this is probably a router, firewall or IP issue.

As your router hasn't changed, the first thing to check is the firewall: open the System Preferences, click on Privacy & Security and click on the Firewall tab. Is the firewall on? If so, click the Firewall Options button and make sure that SecuritySpy is in the list, with the "Allow all incoming connection" option. If it's not in the list, add it.

Secondly, if your Mac's IP address has changed (which is likely since you reinstalled the OS), this will break the port forwarding rule that has been set up in the router. Check the port forwarding rule to see what the Mac's IP address should be, and set up your Mac with this address as per our Setting up your Mac section of our Installation Manual.

    Does this resolve the problem?
  • I think you are on track but I still can get it to go. May I please email you screenshots of both the sspy web server window and my router settings page? It's probably something simple and I'm not so smart...
  • Yes that is probably the best way forward - please send these to support@bensoftware.com. Thanks.
  • I did get it working, thanks to your support, but I still can't seem to get remote patrol to work via SSL outside my home network. Is there an email address where I can contact them?
  • Good to hear you got it working again. You can use this link to contact the developers of Remote Patrol. You could try deleting the server in RP and setting it up again, making sure you enter the address and port correctly.
