STICKING PTZ CONTROLS IN 3.4.9/10 (ONVIF)

I have on 720p NeoCoolCam which is connected via the Onvif protocol in SS. It has worked flawlessly until the 3.4.9 update. Sadly although all controls still work, they stick on, meaning the camera travels until it reaches full rotation, or you click in the other direction (which then sends it in a full rotation in the other direction), rather than stopping when you release your mouse button as it did previously.

I know this isn't a camera issue as I can still control the camera correctly via its own webpage.

I use the Remote Patrol app for my iPhone, and as RC simply controls SS, the same issue is present when using the app, which is infuriating as I can't risk moving the camera when I'm away from home for fear of pointing it at the brick wall of my house.

3.4.10 hasn't corrected the issue.

I'm using the ONVIF Protocol
Port 8090 for Onvif
Port 554 for RTSP
RTSP over UDP

Am I missing a new setting? Can anyone help?

  • Hello,

I think the ONVIF implementation is flawed, because I have since 3.4.9 / 10 also problems with the protocol and my Huisun camera.
So far the presets were no function, now the PTZ control no longer works.

    Best wishes
    Michael
  • Ben always supports issues as they arise Michael. This is simply a blip.
I can't comment on the Presets as I had no reason to use them previously, but the PTZ worked perfectly in 3.4.8 and below, since Onvif was introduced in 2014 I think.
I have every faith this will be resolved. It must be incredibly difficult to keep every single protocol working in every software revision, while striving to add new protocols and support more cameras.
  • PTZ control via ONVIF generally works with a "start" command, followed by a "stop" command. We discovered that some cameras didn't correctly respond to the stop command, so we made some changes to correct this in 3.4.9. This made it work for the cameras we were testing, but unfortunately this seems to have broken this for your camera!

There are so many cameras out there, and many have subtle differences (and don't quite 100% conform to the ONVIF specifications), so implementing commands that work correctly for all cameras is a big challenge. We'll look into this and come up with a way to fix it for the next update, however for now you can go back to SecuritySpy 3.4.8 so that you have functioning PTZ control until we can resolve this issue.
  • Hi Ben, thanks for your response.
I totally appreciate your position, its a shame ONVIF isn't a more strict protocol. To be honest I had no issues with my setup in 3.4.8 so I've re-downloaded from the link you provided. By all means keep me on the list for the beta versions of the next issue, if I can help knowing that I've had these issues, I will.
    Best regards,
    Paul.
  • Hello Ben...
I have just downloaded version 3 4 10 to see if my previous issues in 3 4 8 with PTZ had been resolved using my supposedly-ONVIF-compatible cameras. Unfortunately they have not. Choosing a move or zoom still results in continuous movement.
The cameras are ML22SD domes from Midas-link in Taiwan. Their website (www.midas-link.com) is now permanently unavailable so I am not able to get any further assistance from them. They did claim that their cameras were compatible with SecuritySpy and this was the main reason I bought them.
I have tried connecting with a PC using ONVIF Device Manager v2.2.250 and all PTZ controls work perfectly. I would have therefore thought that the PTZ controls in SecuritySpy should also work if it is using standard ONVIF messages. Are there some settings that might make a difference?
I really would like to finally use SecuritySpy so would very much appreciate some assistance with this issue.
    Thanks.
    Jeff
  • Hi Jeff, sorry about this, please try the latest beta version of SecuritySpy, as it has some bug fixes in this regard.

    Does this fix the problem?
  • Unfortunately, no.
I'd be happy to work with you to find a solution.
Feel free to contact me directly.
    Thanks for your efforts.
    Jeff
  • Me too, happy to share the camera login page if needs be.

Send a PM or email if you need this Ben.
  • Happy to confirm the Beta is working with the NeoCoolCam 720p that I own.
  • Good news, Paul.
As a software developer for many years, I know how frustrating it can sometimes be to create a solution that fits all scenarios.
Don't wish problems on anyone but hope there are enough of us with the same problem to make it worth Ben's while to pursue a solution..!
And, again, happy to actively co-operate in the process, Ben.
    Jeff
  • I'm grateful for Ben's hard work on this, I have every faith he will find a solution for you Jeff.

    Thanks again Ben.
  • I too would love to have PTZ working on my ONVIF camera....
  • Hi All - we've just posted a new beta version of SecuritySpy that will hopefully fix this problem - please let me know! Thanks.
  • Thanks Ben, the new beta is working perfectly here.
  • Excellent news, thanks for reporting back.
