H.264+ Support?

Hikvision has announced a version of H.264 that purportedly can reduce file sizes in dramatic fashion. They have started to include this feature in some of their newer model cameras. Can SecuritySpy be enhanced to support H.264+ ?

    This is interesting. There isn't much technical information about this format out there yet, but according to Hikvision's marketing materials, "H.264+ is compatible with H.264 compression standard", so it seems likely that the H.264+ stream will be decodable by an H.264 decoder, and therefore we wouldn't have to do anything special in SecuritySpy to support it. What they are talking seems to be a custom algorithm they have designed to squeeze a bit more quality out of the existing H.264 format (allowing for a lower data rate at the same visual quality as other algorithms), rather than a completely new format itself.

    We'll keep an eye on this and when these products are available we'll test them.
