SS won't acknowledge full resolution

I recently got two Hikvision cameras, both capable of 2048x1536 resolution. On is a turret 2cd2332 and the other a bullet 2cd2032. I've been experimenting with using my Mac Pro desktop machine as a capture destination as my Macbook isn't up to it. I even installed a SSD in the macbook, with 4GB Ram, wired it directly to the switch and the cameras are also wired to the switch but the macbook simply cannot cope with writing HD files from three different cameras at once even if I dumb down the resolution to 720, I get missing frames, people 'ghosting' across the scene, pixellating movement etc.. So the MacPro machine is now wired to my switch and all three cameras are at full resolution, 20fps VBR and capturing movement flawlessly. Just one query. The turret camera, 2cd2332 when configured in full resolution at 2048x1536 shows up in Security spy captured files as 1920x1080. I've checked and double checked, the camera is configured as 2048x1536 but SS is re-sizing it. Any idea why this is happening ?

  • Hi Peter, glad you got everything working properly with your Mac Pro. Three cameras at such a high frame rate and resolution does put a significant load on the Mac, so perhaps the Macbook simply wasn't up to the task.

SecuritySpy will never resize video from a camera. If you are getting 1920x1080 captured files, then this must be the resolution that the camera is supplying. If you open the movie files in QuickTime Player and then get info (Command-I), what resolution is shown there?
  • Thank you ben, it's an odd one. It's definitley re-sizing the video, not everytime but it still re-sizes the video from the Avtech camera to 352x240 everytime when I switch the device settings to H264. QT confirms the re-size. I'm also using iVMS-4200 software to configure the Hikvision cameras and iVMS captures the footage from both Hikvision cameras as 2480x1536 but without changing any configurations SS captures the footage from one of the cameras as 1920x1080. And in QT the inspector reports it as 1920x1080.
