Why does Security Spy %CPU now start increasing from a previous steady state of about 50% to over 200% after about 48 hours after installing OS 10.11.1 El Capitan? I already turned off masking. Have a 16GB 2014 Mac Mini with PCiE storage and it runs cool 24x7x365 until Security Spy starts to eat CPU (then the fan kicks on). Never did this before latest OS upgrade. Hints? Thanks!

  • The main thing that uses CPU is video decompression and compression. So this includes processing incoming video from network cameras, preparing video for saving to movie files (i.e. capturing timelapse or motion-detection movies), or sending video via the web server. So If the CPU usage is increasing it is probably one or more of these things happening - perhaps there is more motion at different times of the day causing more video capture, or perhaps there are more web server clients requesting video.
