Onvif IP camera functions (noobs)
Hi there, we bought an Aote (China/ebay) IP cam to use as a weather cam for a group of houses. After looking around on the net, we also bought SS to have the camera upload images to a website. The camera is not mentioned on in the SS device list, but is onvif compatible. When this is selected, the camera works great with SS and produces good quality images.
So far, so good.

But is there any way we can tap into more camera functionality through SS?
At the moment all we can do in "Device settings" is add the camera. No video size or quality setting available. We can change format and feed, but that is about it. Everything else under "Camera settings" etc. works well.
What we would like to change is:
Set default time stamp (not the one SS let us put in) to off.
Turn off infra red or red lights next to lense at night time.
Turn on max resolution 2592x1920.
Maybe someone can shed some light on this for us

Great to hear the camera is working so well in SecuritySpy, this is good to know as we haven't come across this particular camera before.
The settings you describe should all be accessible via the camera's web interface. Type the camera's IP address into a web browser (e.g. Safari) and you should get a login screen, where you enter the camera's username and password, and then have access to all its settings. -

Thank you for your swift reply. Yes, we did try that and suspected there would be something there, but we can't connect as we do not have the right plug-in for Safari or any other web browser on the Mac, I guess. Safari is asking for a missing plug. Maybe this is a windows ActiveX plug. So maybe we need a windows machine to do this

It worked! The old PC laptop did the job.
No IR light, 5mp quality/size and no strange time stamp text.

Hi Paul, great to hear you worked it out. It's a shame that some manufacturers don't make their cameras' web interfaces Mac-compatible, which is rare these days for the big manufacturers, but seems to be common among lesser-known ones. Good thing you had a Windows PC handy!
