Sticky Passive Mode

I have one camera ( of 8 ) which has decided to stick in Passive mode.

This is after logging an 705-35 No such volume message. I have checked the volume path many times, and it's for-real. In fact there are folders in there from a few days ago... probably when it posted the error message. ( Feature request: time stamp error messages ) Other cams are happily writing to adjacent directories on same volume. Permissions unchanged on reported volume.

I have
* right-clicked to set to active
* used Camera Settings to reset the path the the volume
* used the Control menu to set all cameras to active ( other, intentionally passive cams went Active )

am I missing something?

TIA, Casey

  • Hi Casey, please try this:

    - Restart your Mac (do not skip this step).

    - Run Disk Utility, select the volume in question, and click the "Repair Disk" button.

    - When that's finished, click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.

    - Repeat for all other volumes that are being used by SecuritySpy

    - Try SecuritySpy again.

    Does that fix it?
  • I will restart the Mac, however the volumes are on a TurboNAS TS-670 Pro and I'm really not so sure about running Disk Utility against that system.
  • Ah I assumed the drive was connected directly to the Mac. In that case you can't use Disk Utility with the drive. Did the restart alone resolve the problem?

Note that the NAS must have its AFP (Apple File Protocol) feature enabled, and it must be actually mounted on the Mac for SecuritySpy to find it. You should be able to see it and mount it from the left side of any Finder window under "Devices".
  • Can you tell me a bit more on how the storage configuration would effect Passive/Active?

The volume/mount point/foo is in constant use by the other cameras and SSpy, and is AFP
  • If the disk is AFP and mounted on the Mac then you have the correct configuration. In this case we will need to investigate further to determine why you might be getting any disk errors that are preventing you from setting the camera to Active mode.

So are you still experiencing this problem? One other thing to try is to reset the capture destination in SecuritySpy (click the Reset button at the bottom of the Setup section of the Camera Settings window), and then set it up again. This refresh may get things working again.
