Remote patrol and spyglass remote viewing of recorded movies

I am having problems with both remote patrol and spyglass with viewing recorded images remotely. I can view the cameras live feed, I can load recorded image and movie thumbnails, but loading the full images or playing recorded videos through either of these apps does not work. Can anyone help me as to why this may be?

I would be very interested in a more fully featured remote app for security spy (or an upgrade to either of the apps mentioned above) that gave more interaction with security spy. The iOS indigo touch app for Indigo is a great example of an app that can be configured to perform almost any function through the pages feature. Something more configurable for security spy would be great.

Comments

  • How large are the movie files that you are attempting to play via the iOS apps? The apps may not be able to handle them if they are too large. If you are using the "One movie per day" options for recording, switch to the other options that will produce smaller files (e.g. "Separate movie per event" for motion detection recording).

As for your second comment, we're continually working with the developers of these apps to improve functionality. We'd be interested in any specific suggestions any users have, for future improvements, so please let us know exactly what enhancements you would be looking for.
  • I also used to use Remote Patrol, and now use Spyglass.

I have the same problem as the OP.
Movies have never worked for me, not even the small movies that start when motion is detected and only last 10 seconds or so.
This doesn't even work on my local wifi.
I'm not sure what is causing this, so I only ever use the search for captured images which works a little better. Spyglass does seem to use some sort of cache though, when a certain image was not properly downloaded, it won't retry and I get a black page every time I try to look at that certain image. This happens a lot when I am travelling abroad and have a flaky cellular connection. A refresh button would be nice, just relaunching the search does not solve this.

I do think these remarks are better relayed to the developpers of these apps, I don't think it has anything to do with how SecuritySpy presents the images and movies.

To the OP, I also just started to use Indigo, and almost everything that is inside Remote Patrol and Spyglass can be integrated inside an Indigo Control page.
I am in fact doing this right now, so I can migrate to one app (Indigo Touch) and handle everything from there. I can also fine tune it just the way I want it. Take a look at the SecuritySpy HTTP documenation, it has everything you need.

Thanks petecam, I realise it is most likely an issue with apps, but because I was having the issue with both (and how helpful Ben is on this forum) I thought it was worth asking.
Great suggestion about trying to replace the apps by using Indigo touch. I wasn't aware that you could stream live video, but I will definitely look into it.
    Thanks
