Viewcam.me down on the 4th of July!

Hi Ben:

Looks like view cam.me is giving me error 500 today. I have been having issues with this portion of the software as the internal network is good. I am using port 8000 and have the port open on my router. This dynamic DNS seems to be the only painful part. My cameras are happy, I still get my email notifications etc. Could it be England is angry at the US today for leaving them oh so many years ago? LOL!
Thanks,

Joe

  • Hi Joe,

On behalf of England, I can say that all is forgiven!

I've done some testing and the viewcam.me DDNS system appears to be fully operational. If it weren't, you would get errors such as "host not found", or "could not resolve domain name". A 500 error is an HTTP "internal server" error, so the viewcam.me DNS resolution must have completed successfully, returning an IP address, but then when your browser attempts to contact the IP address, the server at the other end is returning this error.

There are a few explanations for why this might happen, but the first thing to do is to make sure that it's acutally your SecuritySpy server that is returning this error and not some other server (which would indicate a problem with your port forwarding settings perhaps). So can you tell us exactly what this 500 error says - what is the full text that you see in the browser window when you try to connect?
  • Ben, I also get the error. this is what it says.
Sorry, there was an error (500)
  • I have the same problem. Sorry, there was an error (500).

Checked everything and it seems my settings haven't changed as worh my port settings.

Any idea what this could be??
  • Hi All - apologies, it turns out that there was a server configuration change by our web hosting company that seems to have caused this problem. I think we've managed to fix this now so please try again and confirm that everything is now working.
