.mov not recognized from ftps upload?
Here's a weird one. I've been concerned that if someone broke in and stole my MacPro and hard drives (even though they are in a hidden from view cabinet, but possible), so I placed a Zyxel NAS310 server in a secure location. I spent hours figuring out how to have the files ftps to the drive, which is finally working. Problem is that I see the files and they are the same as what's on my external drive, but when I double click on the file on my NAS drive VLC says it's "can't recognize input format of the file". Same with QuickTime and any other player I use. The file on my primary external HDD works fine. Why would the FTP uploaded version not be the same? BTW, to verify that it's not the NAS's HDD, I dragged the same file from my external HDD to the NAS HDD, and it worked fine.
Basically, there is something happening when the file is being uploaded to the NAS.
Anyone have an explanation for this one. BTW, I'm running version 3.4.7 of SecuritySpy if important

Update...I searched the forum and found others were having issue with FTPS, so I changed it to FTP and the file works fine. I'm assuming there is an encryption issue and though it's above my knowledge from the discussion appears to be a certificate component. At least for now I'll leave it at FTP and hope someone will read this and let me know if there is a way to fix FTPS. Thanks for others on the forum.

Notice it would be nice to control file accumulation on the NAS drive. I'll look for an applescript or some other macro to delete some files as they get to fill up drive. It's nice that SS helps manage the file space on my HDD, but can't see anything relative to the FTP HDD.

Hi @tlutrick - we have many users happily using FTPS but we have also heard from a number of user can't get it working for various reasons. Normally this is due to a firewall between the Mac and server. But if the connection is over your local network there is much lower security concern so FTP should be fine.
We are currently working on the next major update of SecuritySpy, and will look at other secure file transfer methods (for example SSH file transfer), and we will also look at automatic management of stored footage on FTP servers, as you suggest.
