problems since adding D-Link DCS-2310L to the network

Hello there

I'm using SecuritySpy for some years now with two cameras. Lately I added the D-Link DCS-2310L camera and problems wont stop.

First I had frequent software crashes, but the software crashed and rebooted itself so I didn't mind to much. Now the camera just stop working after some days. When I switch her out and in again she then works for some days until she stops to work again ...

Does anyone have some tipps what the problem could be?

Best,

Erik

  • Hi Erik,

We have seen some instances where bad incoming H.264 data causes crashing problems (QuickTime, which SecuritySpy uses to decompress the incoming video, crashes, bringing SecuritySpy down with it). We haven't heard problems with this particular camera though, so the first thing to try would be to download and install the latest camera firmware from D-Link's web site.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, then the next thing to try is switch the camera's encoding from H.264 to MPEG-4 instead. MPEG-4 is still a very efficient codec that will give you efficient file sizes. To do this, log on to the camera using a web browser, locate the settings for the primary video stream, and set the codec to MPEG-4.

Let us know how you get on.
  • Hi Ben

Thank you very much for your quick answer!

I changed the camera output format to mp4 and it seems to work flawless now.
For unknown reason I could not update the firmware ...

    Best regards,

    Erik
