I am new to SecuritySpy and have been having real difficulty setting up a couple of Foscam F19821 cameras, When I did get video from them it would continuously switch between the picture and a blank screen (corrupt stream format?). The settings I used were : Device Type : Foscam H.264 Format H.264

There were periods when I could not get video at all - wireless or wired - with no obvious reason why not. Then I saw this page on the Foscam site : http://foscam.us/forum/how-to-fetch-snapshots-and-mjpeg-stream-on-the-fi9821w-02w-t4328.html I followed the instructions of setting the substream format and changed the Device Format from H.264 to JPEG and straight away had stable video from both cameras which has continued for a few hours.

I guess it would be better to have H.264 working but at least the cameras now appear to be useable.

  • We don't officially support this camera due to numerous user reports of problems with it (if you search this forum you'll see a few discussions - just make sure to search using the correct model number FI9821W - the second character is a letter i not a number 1).

Some users have reported success after installing the latest firmware available from Foscam, so this may be something to try.

The JPEG stream should work reliably, however as far as I'm aware it is lower resolution than the H.264 stream. So if you are happy with the resolution at the moment then stay on the JPEG stream, otherwise update the camera to the latest firmware and try the H.264 stream again. In order to switch the camera back to H.264 mode, you'll have to use the setSubStreamFormat command (as detailed on the page you linked to above) to set the format parameter back to 0.
