10.10.3 Computer Overloaded
Hello: since upgrading to 10.10.3 I'm having problems with SS. It's now having troubles connecting with the cameras. The log is also showing that the "computer is overloaded." It is a 2009 MacMini with 4GB of memory but nothing in the iState monitors of the memory or CPU suggest overloading.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Thanks!
Wayne

Hi Wayne,
I'm assuming this message is about packet loss from your cameras? The computer being overloaded is only one possible cause. Other causes could be due to problems with your network, or due to the camera dropping packets for some reason (e.g. they are trying to send frames faster than the network will allow).
I'd suggest making sure your cameras are running the latest firmware version, checking your network (and connecting cameras by wired ethernet rather than wireless wherever possible), and if you have a choice between UDP or TCP in the Format settings in the Video Device Settings window in SecuritySpy, make sure this is set to TCP (which is a more reliable protocol). Perhaps lowering the frame rate at which your cameras are sending video would also help.
But if you are only receiving these messages infrequently you can safely ignore them - packet loss will just lead to a few corrupt video frames here and there.
If the message is about something else please let us know. -
Thanks for writing, Ben, and I'm sorry I didn't get to this sooner. It looks like my hard drive is failing on my MacMini. I think that's the source of the problems. I'm copying everything over to an external drive with Carbon Copy Cloner. Looks like it's saving getting almost all of it. Hopefully it'll be done soon enough that I'll know.
If that's not the problem, I'll check into the other potential sources you raise.
Thanks for the response.
Wayne
