Motion drag in images

I have been trying to fiddle with my cameras (Dahua IPC-HFW4300S) to reduce cars/people, dragging/trailing in the images. I have not found a good solution to fixing this. Things I have tired:

1) changed I Frame Rate up and down.
2) lower FPS
3) change from Set Bit rate to Variable Bit rate

All cameras are recording in H.264, computer CPU is about 80 percent on average.

    Hi Jonathan,

    This looks like video corruption due to loss of packets. What is the connection from the camera to the computer? Ideally you want wired ethernet from the camera to a high-quality switch (ideally Gigabit speed), and also wired ethernet from the switch to the recording Mac.

    If you are using the ONVIF profile with your camera in SecuritySpy, try the Dahua profile instead. And make sure you are using the latest version of SecuritySpy.

    Variable bit rate is good, with a medium-to-high quality setting. To reduce the bandwidth further to try to avoid this problem, try a lower frame rate (e.g. 5fps). If that is OK, increase it to 10fps to see if that is still OK.

    Finally, contact Dahua to ask for updated firmware for your camera, as updated firmware often fixes problems.

    Same problem - running latest version of SS. Also, down to 10 FPS. Seems to go away the lower the resolution ie. dropping from 3.1 MP to 720.

    My question to Ben and anyone else is - how on earth do you find and download the latest version of the firmware for these cameras. Appears like a search for the holy grail - their customer support is not easy or intuitive. Others experience seems similar.

    We also have Dahua IPC-HFW4300S cameras and see this problem on occasion. Firmware is 2.420.0000.0R, build 2014-04-09. Video is H.264H, 1080P, 15FPS, VBR, quality 4, bit rate 4096, i frame interval 30. At this point we have not tried tweaking any of the settings but there seems to be a lot that can be done.
