Securityspy Axis cams frame drops

edited February 2015 in SecuritySpy
I have 8 Axis cameras and all of them show with framedrops. Looks a bit like The ring if you know the movie.
The cams are set to auto framerate Securityspy cam settings 20 frames.
Anything I can do to make it smooth?

  • Hi Roads,

When you say "framedrops", do you mean that the frames come in bursts, so there is a quick flurry of frames and then a pause etc.?

This may be because the Mac cannot keep up with processing the incoming video from the cameras. This is especially likely if the cameras are high resolution models.

I would recommend setting all the cameras to 5-10fps as a starting point (do this either in the Video Device Settings window in SecuritySpy or in the cameras' web interfaces directly). 5-10fps is a good range for general-purpose video surveillance. But if you need a higher rate, and everything performs well at 10fps, try increasing it a bit, perhaps to 12 or 15fps.

Also, in order to minimise the amount of work your Mac has to do, I'd recommend you follow the optimising performance information from the user manual, as this will give you the best performance and quality.

    Hope this helps.
  • roads: Another followup - are the drops happening only when you are viewing stored events, or during "live" views of one or more cameras?
