Using separate schedules for continuous capture / motion capture

I'm using a Foscam FI9821W on an iMac running 10.8.5.

Wondering if there's a way to set the software to use the continuous capture and motion capture settings at different times via the scheduling window.
I use the camera in a retail store. During business hours, I don't need to fill up hard drive space with videos of me standing there, so I would prefer to have just 1sec individual captures, for use in cases of theft or robbery, for example.
After business hours, it would be good to engage video capture in case of motion detection so that if there was a break-in, I could get as much footage as possible.
It would be even cool to use the two separately. For example, have the 1s continuous capture on at all times, and the motion capture just after hours.

Is anything like this possible? Thank you

  • Hi Steve,

We are working on this as built-in functionality in the next major update of SecuritySpy, but for now there are two workarounds that will achieve what you want:

    1. Add two instances of the camera in the Video Device Settings window in SecuritySpy, using identical settings for the two instances. Both instances can then have their own independent recording settings and schedules. SecuritySpy will detect that they are the same device and will not duplicate the stream from the device, nor count the extra instance towards your maximum number of cameras allowed by your SecuritySpy license.

    2. Schedule some AppleScripts to set the capture settings you want at the times you want them. This requires a bit of effort to set up but will work very well once up and running. Let me know if you want further details on this.
  • I use option 1 and it works great.
