Unable to select and delete captured files remotely

I couldn't select and delete any captured file when using other computer than the iMac server where the SecuritySpy software is running. How to cure this problem?

The iMac is dedicated for Securityspy, there is nothing else except Securityspy after a clean installation. The OS version is Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

The files are in the default location ~/Documents (actually the Finnish language version equivalent Dokumentit for Dokuments). Allowing Read and Write for Everybody in the SecuritySpy subfolder didn't fix the problem. Using another location for the captured files didn't change anything.

When using Safari browser interface for remote access to SecuritySpy on another Mac, I can see the files and open them but I can't put the selection tick marks. "Select all" doesn't do anything either. The result is the same in the home network and in the internet.

I could try the English version of the Mac OS X, or upgrading to other OS X version, but there is nothing else I could think of to solve the problem. Any ideas?

  • Hi - if the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't actually click them, then this is a permissions problem.

So go to the Web Server Settings window and click the Account Settings button. For every camera you want to access via this user account (or for the "All cameras" option), make sure the "Delete captured footage" permission option is checked.

    Hope this helps.
  • Hi - yes, it helped, thank you.

I was looking for some setting like this and I even took a look at the manual as the last resort, however, I couldn't find it by myself.

There were lots of files. After each remote select-delete operation, a new page filled with new files appeared until finally all files were deleted. There seemed to be no means how to move from one page to another, except by deleting the current page. There was no way to know how many pages there are. There was the message that the maximum number of files (4000) was exceeded, but no reference to the number of files at each page or number of pages. Perhaps this could be somehow improved in the future.

The snowy weather caused the exceedingly large number of files, I must experiment with the trigger time setting.

    Great software, though.
  • Glad to hear that solved your issue.

There are no page marks or means to move from one page to the next, because you're not really meant to delete the files in this way via the web interface as the main means of managing the files. This should be left up to the auto-delete settings in the Preferences. When the files reach a certain age (or the disk fills up), SecuritySpy will delete the old files for you.
  • Ok, I see. This makes sense.
