Option to add link to alert email?

Upon receiving an alert email of Motion Detection, the natural next step is to investigate the issue. In my case, that means accessing SecuritySpy via web.

It would be a great help to have a link within the email that opens the desired web server page, saving a step or two to open a browser and locate a bookmark.

That's a good idea, however SecuritySpy doesn't actually know what its internet-access URL is. The address is known only if you are using SecuritySpy's built-in DDNS service, and the port is unknown as this depends on the router's port forward settings. So in conjunction with this feature we'd have to add a setting to specify SecuritySpy's external address. We'll have a think about how best to implement this as I think it would be a useful enhancement.

For now you can get the same functionality by using one of the iOS apps for SecuritySpy (Remote Patrol or Spyglass). SecuritySpy sends a push notification to the app, which you simply swipe to immediately view the live video.

That's what I was thinking...add a field for end user to specify the external URL. If entered, link would get added to email body, either discretely or to the image itself, if included.

Will look into the iOS apps, although the need applies to email alerts read from desktop also. Currently, clicking on the attached image opens the image.

Being able to specify a body text in the email settings window would be sufficient, plus a new "variable" which would be the pathname and another for camera number. The user could fill in the hostname in the email body themselves, if it's DDNS or not. Allowing a bit more data in the email body would be really useful towards this end.


So:
"Enter +d for date, +n for camera name, +o for camera number, +p for pathname of web file"

Email Body example:
Hey, buddy, you just had a video triggered - find it on http://sspy.foo.com:8080/+p or if you want to view live click on http://sspy.foo.com:8080/live?cameraNum=+o&viewMethod=0&imageSize=0&windowWidth=400
